Babushka Dama literally translates to “headscarf lady”. The word “Dama” means “lady” in Croatian, and a babushka is the common headscarf often worn by older Slavic women, in this case in Polish culture.
The name is a play on words that represents my own cultural heritage and is a nod to my maternal babcia, who was sometimes referred to as the “babushka lady” by my childhood friends while growing up in Canada.
